HAA Council

HAA Council

From 12 June 2024 to 12 March 2025, HaSS Association Australia (HAA) was managed by an Interim Council prior to the first Annual General Meeting of HAA. The members of the Interim HAA Council are shown above. Thank you to these committed educators for their work on the HAA  Interim Council to establish HAA and guide the initial work of our association. 

In accordance with the requirements of the HAA Constitution, on 12 March 2025 the first HAA Inc. AGM was held.  The AGM was required to be held within 18 months of being established as a corporate body. At the AGM, the following leadership and Council positions were filled:

  • A Council of fifteen (15) Directors (maximum 15).
  • An Executive comprising a President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer
  • Directors excluded from holding executive office are the pre-service educator members of HAA
The members appointed to the of the HAA Council at the 12 March 2025 AGM were:

Stephanie Morbidelli, Grace Emanuele, Philippa Marsh. Emily Brenen, Danielle Tanti, Georgia McDonald, Olivia Quinn, Malcolm McInerney, Deborah Green, Owen Nicholson, Susan Jones, Jason McKenzie, Kate Pill, Mel Leaver and Roxanne Simpson. 

At the November HAA Council meeting, Emily Brenen and Jason McKenzie left the council and Sanusha S Sritharan and Alec Santucci were co-opted onto the HAA Council – until the 2026 AGM.

The Executive positions on the HAA Council were appointed at the 12 March AGM. They are: Malcolm McInerney (President), Deborah Green and Stephanie Morbidelli (Vice-Presidents), Phillipa March (Secretary) and Susan Jones (Treasurer).
 

The Terms of Reference for the HAA Council are:  

The HAA Council is to:

 

operate under the HAA Constitution

* to be the official decision body of HAA

* regularly consult with HAA members during the financial year of HAA – at least 3 Members Meetings, in addition to the AGM

disseminate information to the HASS education community about the aims of HAA and benefits of membership

plan and conduct professional learning

contribute to all efforts to promote and publicise HAA

 contribute to resource development and publications.

 
HAA Committee Structure

The work of the HAA Council is guided by a committee structure that includes:

1. Marketing and communications committee

Chair: Stephanie Morbidelli   Committee members: Olivia Quinn, Georgia McDonald and Mel Leaver

Involves initiating and coordinating:

  • Marketing/publicity of HAA
  • Membership drives
  • Social media
  • Website
  • Blog
  • Student competitions and scholarships                                            
  • Professional learning Committee

2. Professional learning Committee

Chair: Malcolm McInerney   Committee members: Sanusha S Sritharan, Alec Santucci, Kate Pill and Owen Nicholson

Involves initiating and coordinating:

  • Planning of professional learning program (face-to-face and online events).
  • Logistics of events: venues, catering and resources
  • Webinar program
  • Program publicity: flyers, distribution etc

3. Finance Committee

Chairs: Susan Jones and Grace Emanuele

Involves initiating and coordinating:

  • Fund-raising
  • Sponsorships and grants
  • HAA product coordination and promotion

 4. HaSS Professional Promotion Committee

Chair: Deb Green     Committee members: Danielle Tanti and Roxanne Simpson.

Involves initiating and coordinating:

  • Position papers for the website
  • Media stories and resources for website
  • Resources for blog postings and social media feeds.5council
